Divina came from Mexico to be bred to Georgie and stayed here to be whelped as she had been a difficult mother. The combination produced several champions, both in the US and Mexico, and a quality we hadn’t seen since the Catcher x Gertie litters. Divina herself is a lovely bitch and a testament to her breeder, Juan Montes de Oca’s breeding program with beautiful movement, a fabulous clear red and white coat and tons of substance. She won a record number of Akita specialties in Mexico and was a top show dog in her day. Only a few weeks after her arrival to the US, she completed her temperament test with flying colours and hardly speaking any English, another testament to her excellent quality. She stayed to be rebred to Georgie twice more and finally to retire here. She is one of our very favorites with her silly, toy toting, bone hiding, blanket shredding personality. She is also one of the world’s greatest snorers!

Addendum:

Sadly we lost Divina just shy of her ninth birthday to a huge tumor on her spleen that had ruptured. She has left behind many stunning children and grandchildren both here and abroad but none can completely replace her. She was a one-of-a-kind! We will miss her terribly.
