In 1994 we bred Tuffy (Kabuki's Tuff All Over) to Gummy. Chris Weatherman of Northstar Akitas was so impressed with the quality of that litter, he and Norman Padre bred Tuffy's aunt, Ch Northstar's Misdemeanor, to Gummy. Our phenomenal Catcher came from this breeding.
Catcher was a wonderful, mahogany and white youngster with fantastic bone and size, an incomparable head piece, tiny ears and nearly black eyes. He had a fabulous show career including a placement at the Chicago Nationals under the famous Annie Rogers Clark, Best in Sweeps puppy at the first Golden Gate Akita Club Specialty, group placements from the classes and a championship before eighteen months old. He was in the Top Akitas every year we showed him until his early retirement due to an unfortunate but necessary canine tooth extraction. As much as he thrilled us with show wins, this dog thrilled us with his temperament even more. He made friends all across the country during his show career and he is the favorite of visitors to our home with his enthusiastic greetings and people adoring attention. He has never met a stranger, is so confident and even natured that he is virtually unflappable and, like his father before him, he believes every child is a total delight.
As a producer, he has more than lived up to our expectations with many champion children, including Best in Sweeps winners at Nationals and Specialties, children who have won Winners Dog and Bitch at many prestigious Specialties across the country and grandchildren who have done as well and better. While no dog can be expected to produce completely perfect offspring if they are bred several times in their careers, Catcher has managed our strict criterion of temperament in every breeding we have done with him. And that is an awesome building block in any breeding program.
